Recycled Materials Association (ReMA)

The U.S. trade association for the recycled materials industry, including scrap metal processors.

The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) is the national trade group for companies that process and sell recycled materials, including the scrap metal processors and shredders that receive junk cars. It was called the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) for more than 35 years before taking the ReMA name on April 18, 2024.1

ReMA publishes material specifications, safety programs and economic data used across the scrap trade. It is a different group from the Automotive Recyclers Association, which represents parts-focused auto recyclers.

ReMA says it represents 1,700 recycling companies and is based in Washington, DC.2
