Used motor oil recycling
Collecting drained engine oil so it can be re-refined into new oil or processed into fuel.
Used motor oil recycling means collecting drained engine oil and sending it to be re-refined into new lubricant, processed into fuel oil, or used as a raw material. Junkyards drain oil from incoming vehicles, and many parts stores and service shops accept oil from people who change their own.
Never pour oil on the ground or down a drain, including from a car you’re about to sell. Let the yard drain it, or take it to a collection site.
The EPA says one gallon of used motor oil provides the same 2.5 quarts of lubricating oil as 42 gallons of crude oil, and that used oil from one oil change can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water.1
