Selling a car to a yard in Ohio

  • Title: Paper title: the seller completes the 'assignment of ownership' on the back and has the signature notarized.
  • No title: Under ORC 4505.04, a buyer gets no ownership rights in a vehicle until a title is issued to them or assigned to them, so you need the title (or BMV 3770 for an electronic title) to sell.
  • Plates: Plates stay with the seller.
