Aftermarket parts
New parts made by companies other than the vehicle's original manufacturer to fit or replace OEM parts.
Aftermarket parts are new parts produced by companies other than the vehicle maker. They are designed to fit and work like the original, and quality ranges from comparable to poor.
They are often the cheapest new option, while used OEM parts from salvage yards are an alternative that keeps the original design. Compare fit, warranty and price.
The Federal Trade Commission says your warranty stays in effect if you use aftermarket or recycled parts. If a defective or poorly installed part damages a covered component, the manufacturer or dealer must prove that part caused the damage before denying coverage.1
