Used auto parts

Original parts removed from salvaged or junked vehicles and resold for reuse.

Full guide: How to buy used auto parts from a junkyard

Used auto parts, also called recycled parts, are components removed from end-of-life or damaged vehicles and resold. Because most come from the original vehicle, they are usually original-equipment parts, just with prior use.

They can cut repair costs sharply for older cars, and selling a whole car for parts is part of why junk cars still have value. Check mileage, condition, compatibility and any warranty before buying.

Using a recycled part does not by itself void a new-car warranty. The Federal Trade Commission says a warranty stays in effect if you use aftermarket or recycled parts, and that a manufacturer or dealer must prove such a part caused damage before denying coverage.1
