Curb weight
A vehicle's weight with standard equipment and a full fuel tank but no passengers or cargo.
Curb weight is how much a vehicle weighs ready to drive, with standard equipment and fuel, but without passengers or cargo. It is listed in owner’s manuals and spec sheets, and often by VIN decoders.
Scrap buyers use curb weight to estimate how much metal a car contains. A junk car usually weighs less than its curb weight once fluids, tires and parts are removed, so expect the yard’s scale weight to differ.
Federal emissions rules define curb weight as the actual or the manufacturer’s estimated weight of the vehicle in operational status with all standard equipment, the weight of fuel at nominal tank capacity, and the weight of optional equipment.1
