Full-service salvage yard
A salvage yard where staff remove, inventory and sell parts for you, often tested and with a warranty.
A full-service salvage yard pulls parts for its customers. Staff dismantle vehicles, inventory parts, and sell them over the counter, by phone or online, often with testing and a limited warranty. Repair shops and insurers are major customers.
Parts cost more than at a self-service yard, but you get a part ready to install, without spending a day in the yard. Ask about the warranty, return policy and whether the part came from a vehicle with similar mileage.
Federal guides cover how used parts must be described. The FTC’s guides for the used automobile parts industry say it is deceptive to represent a part as new or unused when it is not, or to misrepresent its condition or extent of previous use or repair.1
