Rebuilt title
A branded title for a former salvage vehicle that was repaired and passed state inspection.
Full guide: Rebuilt title: what it is and how to get one
A rebuilt title is issued after a salvage vehicle has been repaired and passed the state’s inspections, so it can be registered and driven again. The brand stays with the car for good, which is why rebuilt vehicles usually sell for less and can be harder to insure.
For someone selling a rebuilt car, buyers will ask what the original damage was and who did the repairs, so keep the paperwork. For someone junking one, the rebuilt brand matters less than weight and parts.
Texas calls a rebuilt vehicle “prior salvage” and says it must pass safety and anti-theft inspections and other state-mandated standards to return to the road. Its Texas title carries the “Rebuilt Salvage” brand.1
